Funny, This MCA...

I had no intentions to put down my thoughts on the on-going public campaign for the presidency of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), due for elections this October, on this blog - lest I be accused of being nosy (okay, maybe a little). Well, that was until I read this article in The Malaysian Insider (which also confirmed UMNO-MCA's master-servant relationship).

Presidential hopeful, Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek declared that Datuk Ong Tee Keat was unfit to lead MCA because he will not speak up to UMNO.
When asked which MCA leader could lead MCA to such reforms, Dr Chua only indicated that Datuk Ong Tee Keat, the only candidate to declare his intentions to run for the party presidency in the October elections would not be capable.

"He is always regarded as a vocal leader but if it is a controversial issue, he tries to avoid it. During the keris incident, where was he?"

Chua commented, referring to Umno youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's repeated brandishing of the Malay dagger during Umno general assembly meetings.
Ummm... as far as I can remember, Dr Chua was one of MCA's four cabinet ministers in Pak Lah's administration while Ong was a deputy minister. And "during the keris incident, where was he [Dr Chua]?"

The reporter must be commended for daring to ask further.
Asked specifically if [Dr Chua] himself could do it, he refused to answer directly, saying only that "at least I would dare to articulate these concerns."
Ummm... so Dr Chua will at least be vocal about these issues, but he just said that Ong was a 'vocal leader' too! So what's the difference?

Funny, this MCA.

Not funny, just scared of the son-in-law from UWC. Fear and wonder, a powerful combination. I do hope that UMNO just ceases their party elections and make it a pure feudalism and the son-in-law be given the right to inherit the post of the father-in-law in adherence to some obsecure UMNO custom. Then all will be well with the Dark Side of the Force.

At least Ong Tee Keat got reprimanded for voicing misappropriation of funds in the schools.

Sure Choi Soi Lek did help to make way for Wee Meng Chee to apologise in wrapping up the issue but after the young chap did so, he followed UMNO's suit crying for the poor chap's blood.

Tony,

MCA leaders are more or less like that. When talking about malays issues, they are like seeing a ghost - so scare to touch on that. This is 'cos they are infact subservient to UMNO - slave to them and dare not criticise or they would be sacked or terminated in their posts. What a cheap-skate and dare to call themselves championing the Chinese? My foot!!

While I am generally not for mixing personal matter of politicians from their public role but due to our very untransparent and unaccountable system, I do not believe we can actually separate the personal conduct of politicians from their public role.

Dr. Chua can cheat on his own family, he is more than likely to cheat the public in our system. His family excuses him because he gave them lives they would otherwise not have (at the public expense most likely). What is Dr. Chua going to deliver to Malaysian for basically eventually cheating on us? Is he going to cheat on UMNO for us? Not likely, it will be the public coffer eventually.

This is a very realistic politician with little ideals. He can say one thing but not prove it himself is his skill. Perception and taking advantage of weakness of the mass is his core skill. Its pointless to discuss ideals of these people.

I guess Dr. Chua was hiding at Batu Pahat during keris incident. At least, we've several Batu Pahat boys and girl fighting for Justice and equality in the parliament.

Waste my time reading his comments. Soi Lek is as much as a lackey are the rest of them . Jui Meng did speak up.

He was probably in some hotel in batu pahat?

I would safely say that Chua Jui Meng would have been brave enough to speak up for the Chinese. None could equal him during his oratical days of 'A' levels at the English College, Johor Bahru. If you do a background study of his history in MCA, you will find that he has always been very outspoken for the Chinese and the non-Malays. He is clean and commands a lot of respect. I sincerely hope that he will be the next president of MCA although I wish he would join DAP.

Chua Soi Lek is an arrogant man... good riddance to him. If he wants to be MCA top man let him be... it is almost a irrelevant party now. They can continue to lick UMNO's B4LLs for all I care. Pakatan is the future for our future generation

MCA wants only corrupted money and power.

MCA is irrelevant.

come on-lah, why all these comments about tee keat and dr. chua? let us be realistic about our malaysia's political landscape. Who, in the BN, dares to challenge UMNO especially over here? All those talks are just to win support.

UMNO and MCA = Master-servant relationship?

This statement is entirely wrong.

UMNO & the rest of BN component parties = Master - servant relationship, this is the correct, correct, correct statement.

Mr. Pua,

Are u saying OTK better than CSL as the next MCA President? I didn't get ur point. Tq

To me, whoever selected as President of MCA, it will still be the same. But least Ong Tee Keat is of 'more righteous' than the others.

My guess is Ong Tee Keat will definitely be the next President of MCA. Hope he can change the mentality of those in Umno. This is the right time to change the master-servant relationship.

At least OTK don't s***w personal friends.

Where was he? He was in Batu Pahat lah. Where else can he be. Free transport, free room, free DVD, personal friend also free.

Sometimes, the old definition of a leader need to be refreshed. We are coming into a new generations of leaders. New leaders can only dare to speak up when the old leaders don't get involve.

And "during the keris incident, where was he [Dr Chua]?"

No need to ask mah. CSL was at that time in the same room of the same hotel in BP doing the same thing with his personal girlfriend - hand busy, mouth busy, little brother birdie busy, where got time to speak out?

CSL now so grateful to the Umno masters for not charging him of practising unnatural sex act. If he were in Anw Ibr's situation, he would have been charged and locked up for many years lo.

MCA may be down but not out. DAP has a better support this time around but its organization is still small, its success is due solely to voters' sentiment which can change any time. On the other hand, if PR has any real chance of forming a stable government, it needs MCA to cross over badly. It is best to have a healthy competition between DAP and MCA. In this way, the winner is the rakyat.
