Gerakan & MCA: What Are You Waiting For?

I had speculated in my earlier post 3 days ago, 3 possible scenarios panning out of the Ahmad "penumpang" Ismail controversy. While option (1) i.e., Pak Lah gets woken up from his slumber was a non-starter, I had honestly thought that option (3) i.e., a partial compromise "apology" by Datuk Ahmad Ismail will be issued, especially in the light that the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has already issued an apology on his behalf. In fact, I think the majority of readers who commented thought option (3) was a good bet.

But no, despite picking option (3), I actually still had too much faith in Pak Lah!

Instead of Pak Lah giving this recalcitrant Datuk Ahmad Ismail a figurative "tight slap", the exact reverse happened! Datuk Ahmad Ismail, backed by the entire Penang UMNO divisions, including that of Pak Lah's constituency, Kepala Batas, gave the hapless Prime Minister 3 proverbial "tight slaps" instead!

The first tight slap was to the Prime Minister and his Deputy, for apologising and seeking Datuk Ahmad Ismail apology without the latter's consent. "A tense-looking" Pak Lah, came out of a 2-hour meeting with Penang UMNO, changed his tune to say "Ahmad Ismail is not a racist", and concurred that the latter had been "misquoted" or "misinterpreted".

The second tight slap to Pak Lah was targetted at the reporting media, Sinchew Daily for having the courage to report what he said. In effect, he was arguing that Sinchew had no business to be at a UMNO ceramah which was targetting Malay audience and what's discussed at the ceramah was of no relevance to the Chinese community. Hence the vernacular press was guilty for highlighting his comments. It is a indirect call for continuation of the divide and rule policy so favoured by Barisan Nasional which took over from our colonial masters.

In fact, Penang UMNO opposition leader, Datuk Azhar Ibrahim asked for the Sinchew reporter involved to be "shot"(!)

"What was written may lead to a racial riot. If such a thing happens, he is the first person that should be shot," he said to loud cheers from Umno supporters who packed the meeting room at Menara Umno here.

Umm... isn't that a clear cut case of shooting the messenger? Using the same term of reference (which I oppose), should the person who raised the racist remarks in the first place, Ahmad "penumpang" Ismail be the one to be shot for inciting hatred "which may lead to a racial riot"?

Is this the type of UMNO wakil rakyat we have in this country? Or is he enjoying being in opposition so much that he's trying to let Pakatan Rakyat keep Penang for good? Is our Barisan Nasional and UMNO leadership in agreement with this Datuk Azhar's remarks? Silence means none other than consent in this case.

The third tight slap, Pak Lah received on behalf of Barisan Nasional component parties, MCA and Gerakan. With all the bravado displayed by these 2 parties leading up to an apology by the Deputy Prime Minister himself, Datuk Ahmad "penumpang" Ismail not only remained defiant, but upped the ante instead.

Ahmad also slammed Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon as a “great liar and opportunist”, and said Gerakan can always “get out from Barisan Nasional”.

UMNO is now beyond redemption. They have remained stuck in stone age and have refused, out of vested interest, to shift out of their coconut shell. The people of Malaysia have matured politically, most of whom, including Malays as demonstrated in the Permatang Pauh by-elections, have grown out of the racial politics framework. But the entire Penang state UMNO saw no need for change but came out fight for their extremist cause instead.

The question, I have then for Gerakan and MCA is, "what else are you waiting for?" Continue to back your best friends, by shamelessly giving the excuse that the above extremist views are just that of a few black sheep, and the national UMNO leadership do not share their views? This is not ONE man in UMNO. It is the entire UMNO state machinery in Penang, so far openly supported by UMNO Kelantan. Gerakan and MCA should also note that practically all of the other UMNO leaders have remained absolutely silent, which in effect means tacit support for these Penang leaders.

So are you all, Gerakan and MCA, going to stick around til the next elections to witness your inevitable demise? Gerakan has 2 seats while MCA has 15 left in the Parliament, can it be any worse?

The concept of Barisan Nasional has completely outlived its usefulness. While Gerakan and MCA has been DAP's political adversaries for decades, it is never too late to see the light and give Malaysia a fresh start by joining the Pakatan Rakyat federal government.

Make that change, leave the Dark Side and join the Jedi Knights. May the force be with you.

I am so disappointed with how these 2 guys (Koh & Wong) response today... I rather follow a leader who ask me to go out and fight rather then "Miss Universe" who only knows "World Peace" as excuse.

Many of the Gerakan & MCA leaders joined for personal interest. Inviting them to join Pakatan will merely result in problems arising from these 'what's in it for me' politicians.

I say let Gerakan & MCA stay on in Barisan. However, with open arms, invite the politicians who will commit to service and C.A.T. to join the fold.

This racist bloke Ahmad did an up his finger at the leaders of MCA and Gerakan .... refusing to apologise. The Umno leaders should ask the law to take its course, charge him under the Sedition Act, instead, they are apparently, condoning his offensive remark silently. If these two component parties of BN, could not see the writing on the wall, they deserve to be damned. Remain as beggars or salvage some pride left in you.

Gerakan and MCA have no gut to leave BN. They know they can't survive out there without UMNO. They are comfortable in BN and do not know how to independent now. Their leader's words becoming similiar to our PM - flip flop. If you notice MCA and Gerakan statement day after day, they are just playing games with chinese community and hope to the end, Chienese wil forget all this. However, who want MCA and Gerakan which is race based party while we have multi-racial party like PKR and DAP who represent Malaysian.

And it raises more questions about what was said...
i. Was there a motive for bringing out something that happened half a century back at Permatang Pauh?
ii. Was the facts brought up about the British "favouring" the chinese at all legit?
iii. How are chinese of yester years associated to chinese of today?

Considering the press statement made, even if he sees the statement as not being racist, he should be aware (at the very least) that it would likely stir up some racial tension (as it did). Having his own opinion that it was not racial doesn’t mean he should shy away from the responsibility as a leader, looking beyond oneself to serve the people. It's a simple rule, if it’s going to cause racial tension, DON'T say it. If you 'accidentally' utter such things, be big hearted, apologise for creating any tension. Think and act FOR the people of Malaysia. For those who don't know the definition of 'the people of Malaysia', it's definitely not 'singular'.

Tony, since you also maintain a separate site on education, it would be nice if you could (for our sake) give us some thoughts about premium education for the chinese pre-merdeka(as pointed out in the press statement). I think a few of us would be very interested in some of the facts here. Personally, I thought it was due to the fact that chinese had keen sense of trading. Most of us British graduates would find it difficult to believe that meritocracy was not practised at the timeline Datuk Ahmad specified.

But just to bring us all back to the timeline we are at NOW, I know that there are a lot of parents out there who have to tie their stomach real tight to ensure that their children get an opportunity to get proper education. It's hypocritical to state that a preferred race had opportune access to education then, considering what we see at the local universities today.

People of Malaysia, please help ourselves with putting the BEST UNCORRUPTED MINDS at the helm to steer our nation to greater heights!

Gerakan has been such a non-event since the late great Tan Chee Khoon passed on it might as well not exist at all. I'm so glad his son has decided to do the only sensible thing and join Pakatan Rakyat. Are there any other sensible and public-spirited Gerakan leaders apart Tan and Toh? Let's hope there are. The whole party should resign and join, leaving Tsu Koon and Keng Yaik to nurse their memories of former glory.

I am sorry but if we read the book May 13 which has since been taken off the racks by the government, we would realise that durin gthat time the forces which are suppose to be protecting the people were shooting randomly at the shophouses.

We must stop all these racialism especially when UMNO in trying to get the people support stroke Malayanism!

In the same book, it shows that May 13 were actually just a plot by some leaders to ursurp Tunku Abdul Rahman's power and influence. TAR has been a real Malay leader who are fair for all the race.

I just wish someone would do some proper research and discover that Malay are also menumpang. Hey, an Indonesia discover Malacca!

The following, which is the text of the Virginia Declaration of Rights (1776):

All non umno people in this country should join the opposition and get fcuking umno out once and for all. UMNO. Buto Ahmad is laughing at Najib and Badawi as they have no guts to do anything to him. A piece of good news: the wealthy (at least he used to be) son of a former party chief lost big time in the Perak MCA Election. Maybe MCA is serious about rehabilitating itself.

As for Gerakan, I think it is on its last legs. If only euthanasia is legal here.

If the PM wants to take care of this Ahmad all he got to do is send in the ACA to rough him up. I bet you the rest of the Penang UMNO division heads will quickly toe the line. He has done that to Yong Teck Lee he could do that to Ahmad if he wanted to. The PM must have some kind of relationship with this Ahmad most probably business otherwise I couldn't see why a PM cannot easily overcome a small fart of a recalcitrant.

I doubt MCA and Gerakan will ever leave BN, the monies involved is just too much to give up.

I think DAP's next target should be Sabah and Sarawak, educate the native in Sabah and Sarawak on what's going on, this can be illustrated not with words but with images and diagrams.

- show how much the state is contributing to the national coffer and why is sarawak still so backwards.
- reach out to them, show images of these rich corrupt BN lifestyle, their amazing fleet of cars and houses, and tell them to look around what they've got.
- promise change, be more specific on the change, list it down, make it the catchline of pakatan.
- what pakatan need is a common symbol, a catchline and probably a few more political parties from sabah and sarawak. DAP,PKR and PAS is just too West Malaysian.
- I think foreign inverstor would love to set up factories in east malaysia, its stable, cheap labour, and unlike china, they don't have to worry about losing their copyrights, plus, singapore is near.
- forget about MCA, Gerakan, MIC, they're gone, burried by none other than their UMNO buddies.
- Its time DAP recruit in a few open minded malays, there are many but they are relatively quiet when it comes to politics.

I think the Opposition is playing with fire here. You have already scored your political points, it is time for you to move on.

Racial riots could easily happen, even in this day and age. The problem for the oppostion is knowing when they have gone far enough and stopping before they have gone too far. Malaysian Malays are starting to feel uncomfortable with what they feel is an "emasculation" of their political position, rightly or wrongly that feling is.

If riots could have happened in Kenya after decades of stability, it could easily happen in Malaysia again. I doubt you would want all your opposition gains to be lost in another National Operations Council-like rule of Malaysia.

This drama is far from over.

During this weekend, like many families, we go out to eat. Every restaurant and coffes shop I went to, young and old Chinese people were talking about Ahmad Ismail. The older the louder the discussion and opinion. People remember what they and their grandparents sacrificed for this country.

Even in mamak stalls, the Malays were talking about how badly Badawi is handling this...

Frankly, I found it amazing. Ahmad Ismail has done more to awaken the Chinese political consciousness except Anwar Ibrahim..with due respect to you and your colleagues...

Already the gutless Chinese based BN political parties such as MCA and Gerakan and the other Chinese based BN political parties in Sabah and Sarawak are already softening their stand on this bullying by the Umno Warlords. It is so pathetic to to read that MCA leader Ong Ka Chuan saying that it is best to put this Ahmad Ismail episode to rest. Then. you have that yellow bellied Mosquitoman Koh Tsu Koon saying that it is just the opinion of one person and not of Umno's. What kind of idiot is Tsu Koon? Doesn't he know that what Ahmad Ismail said has been supported by all 13 Umno divisions in Penang?


This Scribe calls on all Malaysian Chinese, Educationists such as Dong Jiong, Clansmen and Chinese Associations to demand that all Chinese based BN component parties to leave BN immediately. If your father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, uncle, aunt, godfather, godmother, brother, sister, relative, friend, spouse, colleague are members of any BN component party, asked them to leave now. Ask them to join Pakatan Rakyat instead!


This Scribe wants to let everybody know that such racist and bigotted views are held only by the Umno ultras and are not reflective of the views of the majority of the Malays and Muslims in this country. We are family no matter what. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Raja Petra, Haris Ibrahim, Malik Imtiaz are just a few examples of Malays and Muslims who are fighting this Evil BN/Umno regime. They are putting themselves and their families at great risk for standing up for the rights of the non Malays and non Muslims in this country. Let us all March with them to Putrajaya and cast out Satan's minnions, Umno and the rest of their evil agents into the fires of hell!!!

If you have read Anwarwood Productions latest script, you would have understood what is happening in Penang and all the news as reported in MSN, Malaysiakini, Malaysia Today and other blogger's websites. Some may have high blood pressure, a stroke or even a heart attack by now.

However, my advice to all Malaysians is , "Make Dunno Only!". Continue with your Fast, make preparations for Hari Raya and Mooncake festivals or whatever festivals coming your way.

For those who don't have any upcoming festivals to celebrate, then, may I suggest, we make preparations to celebrate Malaysia Day on 16 September which is the day Malaysia was born, 45 years ago, together with our fellow brothers and sisters from East Malaysia.

If you want to continue getting excited with the news and stories coming out from Penang, then may I suggest the following for you to ponder.

1. Ahmad says Chinese are immigrants or squatters. - Tell me who isn't an immigrant or a squatter in this world?

2. If you are sensitive to the words immigrants or squatters. - I have heard much worst than that over the past 51 years. I am already desensitised.

3. Ahmad tore Tsu Khoon pictures. - No big deal. It would be better if Ahmad had called him, Ka Ting, Sammy Veloo and all those other representatives of BN parties and slap them all instead for not conforming to the spirit of the Malaysian Constitution and doing trade bartering of rights of human beings for their own party interests.

4. Ahmad talking for all Malaysians Malays? - What about DSAI? Maybe Ahmad only represent the 50 or so followers he has. Maybe he can try buying more followers.

5. Ahmad talking for all Moslems? - What about Tok Guru? Is Ahmad an ulama?

6. Reporters get threaten and so forth. - Why are the MSN reporters there in the first place? Why after interviewing Ahmad, then run to interview other BN leaders? Is the news so important that it is worth reporting? Why don't interview Malaysians on the street and ask them what they think of Ahmad and other BN leaders.

7. Use ISA, Sedition Act and so forth. - For once, I totally agree, but it is only to be used only on BN politicians. After everyone is locked up, then abolish it.
