Blog Research

"Is blogging an effective tool to democratize Malaysia?"

June Tan is a Masters student at the Centre for Public Policies in Universiti Malaya. As part of her Masters thesis, she is researching on the above issue.

She has set up a simple survey for bloggers as well as blog-readers to complete. I've completed it and it'll only take between 5 - 10 minutes of your time.

To find out more about her research, you can visit her research blog. There are some interesting blog culture analysis there, although they are based more on research in the United States. She intends to publish her findings and conclusions in public upon completion of her thesis. It certainly will be interesting to know how effective blogs will be, particularly for the next general elections ;)

Interesting reading. Survey response submitted.

Just did the survey and found that the profiles of the readers are quite skewed if Tony's blog is meant to have significant impact.

Most are college students, overwhelmingly Chinese, no Indians as of the time I finish.

I think we owe Tony a duty to popularize this present blog by introducing it to our close associates and friends by informing them through email or by word of mouth. We have a lot of work to be done.

Just a question: What exactly do you mean by "democratizing" Malaysia?

Is there any difference between "democratizing" and promoting "accountability"? Does democratization cover more than just "in political terms"?

I'm curious... hope you (or anyone) can enlighten me...

We would like to know which University is Miss June Tan doing her Masters Thesis on this "Blogging" topic and is this thesis a module part of many modules in the programme or is this thesis the whole Masters programme by itself? Thank you.
