Even domestic buyers purely for investments is also very limited.

So if speculation is right about the real reason why this was done, its an act of mediocrity at best, but more likely an act of delusional self-intelligence or desperation.

It merits looking into who came up with the proposal, the analysis leading to it and who lobbied for it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37045477.post-28401005009701345982007-04-04T13:42:00.000+08:002007-04-04T13:42:00.000+08:00Tony, why don't you write and discuss something to...Tony, why don't you write and discuss something to help DAP win the by-election in Machap? It's commonly acknowledged that this form of investment is not the ideal outcome of investing/savings - i.e US, New Zealand provide us great example of capital tax effect on savings/investment. (Hence we should be against that)

2) Secondly, capital tax reduction might actually have a positive impact on the economy, and indeed through the multiplier effect. However, this effect will be in the form of investment. With greater saving, firms and the wealthy will have more $$ to invest in other form (possibly real estate). Hence, we might want to have the low property gain tax.

Prhaps more subtly, the abolishment of real estate tax will have more long lasting impact than our current administration imagine. Hope more prudent discussion on this issue will take palce before pushing it through.

economistSilent Me Not AUthor 1https://www.blogger.com/profile/11943695498624452369noreply@blogger.com
